How to Win a VA Claim

Our proud men and women serving in the Armed Forces are placing their lives and families on the line. Unfortunately, some of them become seriously injured during deployments to various locations in the world and incur physical and mental harm during time served. Filing a VA claim can be a very frustrating and long process. There are some essential steps to take to ensure a smooth experience and victory on your VA claim.

Contact multiple veterans' service officers before you make your claim, take your time and pick a VA Officer in which you feel comfortable and confident in. They can assist you on the process of filing and are very helpful in providing you with vital information and essential paperwork.

Download a PDF blank copy of the SF 180 form from the National Institutes of Health website. Your VA Officer can also provide you with the SF 180 Form and information. Request your DD 214 from the National Personnel Records Center. Your VA Officer can help with this as well. Fill out the provided VA Form 21-526.

Request copies of all your medical records from hospitals and private physicians you have visited.

Do not send any requests or documentation directly to the VA Office; route through your Veterans service officer. He will create a log to keep track of what is being sent to the VA office and also screen for anything that maybe missing or not needed. Keep copies of all paperwork you send to the VA, and do not send originals unless required.

Using a PDF Editor to modify your PDF files makes it easy for you to make corrections when needed and enable you to send it in an e-mail.

Persistence is the key to winning your VA claim. The process is long and aggravating but if you keep pushing your VA Officer and stay on top of your claim with the VA office, you will come out on top.

Please remember although the VA Officer should keep logs on tracking the process of your VA claim you should also create a file to store all correspondence that you may receive to be safe.
