How to Find an Explanation of Veterans Administration Retirement Benefits

By Helen Jody Lin

Veterans who have served in the military are eligible to receive Veterans Administration (VA) benefits after they retire. The Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) and the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) are created by the federal government for veterans and federal employees to keep track of their retirement benefits. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management provides information and explanations on their website so you can learn more about your VA benefits.

Go to the United States Office of Personnel Management website.

Locate and click the "CSRS Retirement" or the "FERS Retirement" option under the "Federal Employees" section in the middle of the page. If you are a veteran employed by the military before Jan. 1, 1987, select the "CSRS" link. If you have been employed on or after Jan. 1, 1987, select the "FERS" link.

Click on each individual category, such as eligibility, disability and computation, to receive an in-depth explanation regarding veteran retirement benefits.
