How to Find Vietnam Army Veterans

By Evan Salveson

Serving in the military creates many friendships with the men and women you serve with on a day-to-day basis. Sometimes a memory forms from only meeting someone for a brief moment and you wonder whatever became of him or her. These examples and many others took place for those serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. If you want to connect with an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, different options exist for you to find that veteran.

Assemble as much information as you can about the veteran you want to find. Information such as full name, rank, place of birth and date of birth help locate an Army veteran from the Vietnam War.

Search for the veteran on the Military website, VetFriends and the Lost and Found section of Vietnam Veterans. These websites list thousands of veterans and allow you to search for the veteran by name or post his name on the Lost and Found section. A visitor to one of the websites you use may know the veteran you are trying to find and may help you connect with him after seeing the name listed.

Write a message to the person you're trying to find and use the Veterans Administration to forward the letter to the veteran. The veteran you want to find must have a claim with the VA in order for the VA to forward the message. Once completed, place the message in a stamped, unsealed envelope.

Write the VA a message explaining who you are trying to locate and include in the message all of the information you have available about the veteran.

Place both the message to the veteran in its unsealed envelope and the message to the VA in a stamped envelope. Mail the envelope to the nearest U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office. If you need help, call the VA at 800-827-1000 to speak with a representative.
