How to Register With Veterans Affairs

By Jesa Lynn

The Veterans Affairs website is the online gateway to your VA benefits. Accessing your benefits and information about the use of your benefits requires that you register as a user on the VA website. It is important that you only register once. If you forget your login information, use the "Forgot your password" or "Forgot your user ID" links under the login form to retrieve them. Do not attempt to register again.

Go to the user registration page on the VA website.

Click "Register Now."

Select your user type. Choose the user type that best describes you -- a veteran, VA employee or veteran affiliate.

Enter your personal information including your full name, birth date, social security number and gender.

Provide your current contact information.

Complete your security questions and choose your user name and password. Only letters and numbers may be used in your user ID. Your password must be at least eight characters and begin with a letter. It must contain three of the four acceptable categories: numbers, uppercase letters, lowercase letters or special characters. The VA website notes that an exclamation point cannot be used as a special character.

Complete your registration, subscribe to a community and begin using your user account to access your information and benefits.
