How to Find Out Eligibility for Veteran Benefits by State

Did you know that the federal government is not the only organization that provides veterans with benefits? If you are a veteran, or a disabled veteran, you may be eligible to receive an array of state benefits. Just read the information below to find out how to determine what kinds of benefits your state provides.

Visit the Department of Veterans Affairs website.

Scroll down the menu on the left hand side to ¨Partners.¨ A small window will open on the right: Move down the menu to ¨State Veterans Affairs Offices¨ and click.

Click on the state name to access the state´s Veteran Affair Office website and read state benefit information. For illustration only, we will select the state of Texas.

Look for the link that reads ¨State Benefits¨ in the left menu and select.

Glance over the entire page, paying particular attention to the requirements needed to receive the desired benefit. For example, Texas offers disabled veterans a free drivers license. However, the veteran must have a 60% or more disability rating to be eligible.

Contact the State Veterans Affairs Office for more information by clicking on the ¨Contact VA¨ link from the top menu.

Receive the state benefits you are entitled to. Remember, it is your responsibility to apply for state benefits.
