If you retired from military service or became disabled while serving in the military, there are many sources of funding available to you that will pay for a lot more than just your medical expenses and a monthly pension. Below are a few ways you can apply to receive some of that extra cash.

Check with the Department of Veterans Affairs to see if you qualify for a specially adapted housing grant. The VA will pay a large sum to assist you in modifying an existing structure to meet disability-related requirements. They will also pay for adapting a house that is classified as a temporary residence or is owned by a family member.

Ask the VA if you also qualify for a grant toward the purchase of a motor vehicle that is specially adapted to your disability.

Converse with the VA to see if you qualify for an annual clothing allowance. These are given to disabled veterans who use prosthetic or orthopedic appliances.

Check with your state to see if it offers additional benefits for retired or disabled veterans. Many states have several programs ranging from housing assistance to education funding to aid veterans.

Question the VA to see if you qualify for additional funding to support children under the age of 18 or children still in school up to the age of 23. Ex-wives of retired or disabled military personnel are also eligible for funds.
